  • This is second year of the department.
  • During academic year 2009 – 10, for B.Sc  part I Biotechnology course, total 25 students admitted in the college.
  • 7 teaching faculties and 8 non teaching faculties were appointed for this department.
  • Students were participated in various competitions very actively and won prizes, during year 2009 – 10.

  1. Essay writing competition on the occasion of Gandhi Jayanti.

  2. General Knowledge quize competition on blood donation held at V. M. Medical College, Solapur.

    Student’s achieve participation and got consolation prize.

  3. 22 students were participated with great enthusiasm in ‘Avishkar – 2008’. District levels inter college project competition.

    One project was selected for state level project competition and got first prize at district level.

Events organized by the Biotechnology department:

  • The Department has organized a one day workshop on ‘Biotechnology Analytical Techniques” in collaboration with Bioera Pvt. Ltd. For All Biotechnology as well as Bioinformatics students on 16th Jan 2010.
  • Organized one day workshop on ‘R-DNA Technology and Bioinformatics’ in a joint collaboration of Walchand College of Arts and Science, Solapur and Vishweshwariah college of Applied Sciences, Gulbarga for B.Sc. part I Biotechnology students, on 14/02/09. Total 43 students and 7 teaching faculty members were participated.
  • Arranged 3 days study tour for B.Sc. part I students at Goa.
 
  • Departmental visits of renowned persons from various fields, during Academic year, 2008 – 09.
  • Students of Geography department, Philips University, Marburg, Germony, Dated 27/09/2008.
  • Students of Management, New Business School, Amsterdam, USA, dated 13/11/2008.

2. Student Profile: The students seeking admission to the Department come from different language families, viz. Marathi, Kannada, Telugu, Hindi etc. Most of the students hail from lower middle class or weaker sections of the society. A majority of the students have average entry-level competencies.

3.Curricular Changes (Past Two Years): The syllabus of B.Sc. Part I & II has been revised during the years 2008 and 2009.

5. Learning Resources: The Departmental library has 624 reference books which are made available to students, research scholars and faculty. The number of journals is 25. The Department has 30 computer systems. The state-of-the-art laboratories of this Department have BOD Incubator, COD Digester, Biosafety Cabinet, (CO2) Incubator, Autoclave, Hot Air Oven, Tissue Homogeniser, Thermostat Waterbath, Colorimeter, PH Meter, Magnetic Stirrer, Microcentrifuge, Horizontal Gel Electrophoresis, Vertical Gel Electrophoresis, 3D Rocker, Microplate Shaker, P.C.R., Work Station, Gel Documentation System, Laminar Air Flow Chamber, Hot Air Oven, Refrigerators, Electronic Balance.
